Weekend cat blogging: Archipelago Bowser

Monday, September 8th, 2008

I know it’s Monday but the weekend passed by so quickly so maybe it’s not such a bad idea with a cat post after all. This post I planned to write ages ago.

When we first heard of Bowser a couple of years ago, we couldn’t resist him. He looked so cute and had the best personality ever, more like a dog than a cat. He was living with a family with 2 children and when the youngest one was diagnosed with asthma he had to move. We decided to take care of him and we really thought that he would get a long with Yoshi and Tanuki, but that was easier said than done. Yoshi and Tanuki have been living together since they were kittens and they are very close friends. For several years we thought it would get better, but it didn’t. Yoshi was too dominant and Bowser was ganged up on by both Yoshi and his partner in crime Tanuki. Bowser had a hard time to move freely without beeing chased by the others. We tried with play therapy and all sorts of tricks, but it just didn’t get better. Finally, even though our hearts were breaking, we decided to not be so selfish anymore and last Christmas he was welcomed with open arms by my parents in law who had come to love the sweet cat during the years, as he often stayed with them when we were visiting. The first time without dear Bowser was really hard, with lot of tears and emtpyness. But it was the best solution for all cats, and us. Yoshi and Tanuki became the cosy unstressed cats they had been earlier and Bowser started his new calm and perfect life. He living a very happy life on a small island without cars, he has his own cat door and no other cats at home. The only cats he meets are the ones coming into his garden and he chases them straight away. He is truly loved by my parents in law and he loves being with them. Just look at the photos, doesn’t he look like a super happy cat?

This could be just an ordinary shot of Yoshi sleeping…..

It’s been really hot in Sweden the past days, it’s 30 degrees C which is way too hot. Mostly we don’t do anything except walking the short walk down to the beach where we take a bath. We’re exhausted by the heat, just as the cats. But I know I shouldn’t complain as summer is short and soon it will be autumn again, and these warm summer days will only be a vague memory.

But it’s actually his new favourite spot where he’s overlooking the house and all people entering it. And yes, I’m really scared that he will fall down in his sleep.

The cats havn’t appeared too much lately on the blog, so I though it’s time to show that they are well. Here’s Tanuki and as many cats he loves to lie on and in things; bags, clothes, tablecloths and apparently in – what he thinks – his own little house.

My mother is visiting us this weekend so we’ve been busy sightseeing and eating a lot of goodies. Both we and the cats are very happy to have her here, especially after shopping flowers at the market as they love flowers. Now we just have to keep an eye on them so they don’t eat them :-)
Yesterday we went to the great restaurant Grill which I really recommend, the food is grilled in different ways depending on which dish you choose and it’s super tasty. The coctails (many with polish bison grass vodka and champagne) were really yummy and the whole place is really loungy and cosy, it’s like a mix of different living rooms.

I hope that you’ve all had a nice weekend. Today I realized that I have a huge back log, so my plan is to blog about Japan and Rome during the coming weeks and of course food.

I couldn’t find the host for this week’s weekend cat blogging, but I’m posting anyway. Bowser loves to cuddle up, here he´s sleeping foot by foot with Fredrik. Our dear Bowser became uncle last night; his sister Glinda gave birth to 4 kittens of which 2 were born during the wonderful 13 course dinner which we were invited to at Anne’s. It was my very first time seeing a kitten birth so I was very excited, and I was incredible full due to all food :-) See the rest of the kitten photos at Anne’s food.

Yoshi’s favourite spot

It’s time for weekend cat blogging again. This week CatSynth is hosting. See the roundup here.

Our tumble cleaner is broken and Yoshi’s delighted as it’s his very favourite spot. He’s really happy now when we don’t throw him out from it everytime we wash. The question is if we have the heart to call the repair man or not :-)

Nemo, Bowser and Vida. Even Vida loves the cat tree :-)

It’s time for weekend cat blogging again. Each weekend food Bloggers around the world share pictures of their cute cats. This week I Got Two Shoes is hosting. See the roundup here.

When we went for our honeymoon to Japan, we separated our cats and let Bowser stay at my mother’s together with her two Maine Coons Nemo and Pixie and her cute little Lhasa Apso Vida. Vida is so much smaller than 12 kg Nemo, so they look very cute when wash each other. My mother’s cats are very friendly so they get along very well with Bowser; Bowser and Nemo even cuddled up several times. Bowser had a great time on his vacation and he was probably very glad that Yoshi and Tanuki spent their vacation with Fredrik’s parents, among others on their boat (!).
