Help with restaurant recommendations for Paris?

We’ll be spending New Year’s Eve in beautiful Paris!! I would be really grateful for restaurant recommendations, especially for la Saint-Sylvestre (as New Year’s Eve is called in French), but also for the other days we’ll be in Paris.

I know it’s been quiet here for a while, but I’m here. First I worked in Gothenburg for a few days, then our internet at home was down for a long time and finally last week I had a really bad stomach flu. I still feel a bit sick, but I’m much better. Due to the flu I havn’t cooked nor actually eaten much. But luckily for me and you I have a large back log with photos and recipes which I need to post before I forget the details :-)

When I was in Gothenburg for work I stayed a few days extra just to visit my family. When I travelled back to Stockholm I had an extra suitcase due to all food that my dear mother had packed for me. She made tons of Polish pierogi which now lays in our freezer and which we eat with reverence. My mother also packed some cans of sweetened condensed milk for baking and a lot of other food. After my check-in at the airport, including the extra suitcase of food only, I went to the security check where I had to take of my shoes which caused beeping. After finally getting through the security I suddenly heard my name in the loudspeakers; I was asked to contact the information desk. So I had to go back all the way and I was feeling a bit nervous as I didn’t know what was going on. After being shunted back and forth between the airport staff I finally ended up by my suitcase, the one with food which I had checked in. “-We believe that you have paint cans in your suitcase and they are not allowed”. I never blush, but I think that I actually did this time when trying to explain that it was milk… I had to unpack my suitcase and show the labels on the milk cans which the staff carefully read. They just laughed and said that it was OK, then I had to run back to the security check, take off my shoes again and then I was finally on my way to the gate. Both me and the milk arrived safely in Stockholm, and the pierogi as well.

Easy conversion of measurements directly in Google

I guess that I’m not the only one confused by all different measurements when reading recipes online. Yesterday Fredrik showed me how to easily convert measurements directly in Google.

For exampe just write 1 deciliter in cups, 500 grams in ounces, 6 cups in litres or what ever you want to convert, directly in the google search box.

Don’t you just love Anne’s labels!?

Today when I came home from work a parcel was waiting for me from sweet Anne. She heard that I had problems finding my new favourite tea, a green tea with cheesecake (or actually lemon and yoghurt) flavour. She found it in a small tea shop on Värmdö and kindly bought me some of that fantastic tea. She was also so sweet and enclosed here own yummy lingonberry toffees. Thank you so much Anne, what a perfect start to the weekend!

Our honeymoon in Japan is getting closer and most of the ryokans and hotels are now booked. We’ll visit Tokyo, Kyoto, Nikko, Nara, Hiroshima, Kamakura and Takaragawa Onsen; it wouldn’t surprise me if we’ll change the itinerary a bit but we’ll see about that. What we need now is restaurant recommendations, we’ve picked out quite a few places from discussion forums and travel books but maybe YOU know about a restaurant or bar that we shouldn’t miss. I would also be glad for recommendations what to buy and bring home to Sweden; food, food appliances and other food related things.

After almost going bananas as my wordpress interface prevented me from writing new posts (without me doing any changes) I finally found the problem late last night. It was a plugin that earlier has worked without problems and now suddenly decided to destroy the whole interface. Anyway, now I can finally post again!

1. A lot of receipts.
2. A passport (my ID expired 2 years ago and I still havn’t fixed a new one).
3. A Visa card with an erased magstripe (this happens to me all the time since last year. My other credit cards work excellent, it’s just the Visa card that I have problems with. I’ve tried another purse etc but nothing works. I can’t expect the card to work more than a few weeks. Some people say that it’s due to number 5 on this list, but then why are not my other cards affected?).
4. Chewing gum
5. Two cell phones (one private and one for work. I want to be able to turn of the work phone after office hours but still be able to recieve and make private phone calls).

As I wrote earlier I’m not celebrating Easter with my family this year and just a few minutes ago I received an e-mail from my mummy with a photo of a beautiful cake that she’s made for today’s Easter dinner (unlike the Swedes, the Poles have their Easter dinner today on Easter Day). I have no clue about the filling, but it does look both beautiful and delicious. My mummy is the best, I only wish I was there today.

I know it’s been quiet here for a while..
