The perfect ice cream

Vietnamese coffee ice cream

Ice cream season has barely started so once more I would like to remind you about the lovely book “The perfect scoop” by David Lebowitz. If you don’t have it, make sure to get it as soon as possible as it’s the best ice cream book ever and the recipes are gorgeous! Swedish readers can order it from here (however the book is in English). I’ve tried a lot of the recipes and so far I havn’t been dissapointed. Here are some pictures of a few things that I’ve tried from the book.

And when speaking of ice cream, does anyone of you own a Gaggia compressor ice cream maker? I’ve had my eyes on it for a while now, but I can’t really make up my mind. It’s big and needs a permanent location in your kitchen as it can’t be moved for 12 h before making ice cream. But still I would love to make ice cream whenever I want, not having to wait for the freezable part of my current (very old) ice cream maker.

Banana and blueberry sorbet

Nectarine sorbet

Strawberry sour-cream ice cream, my favourite one!

Zgadzam się – to najlepsza lodowa książka. Szkoda, że nie umieścił w niej przepisu na solone lody karmelowe – jak dla mnie to hit dekady.
    Pozdrawiam serdecznie:)

I can’t speak to the brand at which you’re looking because my compressor ice cream maker is a Cuisinart. However, I LOVE having it. Once or twice, I’ve gone from impulse to ice cream in 2 hours.

I put mine on a placemat and it lives in a corner. When I want to use it, the mat makes it much easier to slide out to a usable position.

Something that I haven’t done, but have read of: you can also use them to make frozen cocktails like margaritas or daiquiris (or non-alcoholic drinks for the minors).

I’ve been looking at the Cuisinart – but if someone were to offer me the Gaggia I wouldn’t say no! I can’t decide whether the coffee or the strawberry sour cream icecream looks better. They both looks delicious!

I also am a big fan of David’s book although I’d be hard pressed to choose a favorite at this point. This is probably why my freezer is currently over stuffed with ice creams, lol.

I LOVE that Vietnamese coffee ice cream – have made it on countless occasions!
Cannot help you with the ice cream maker – I’ve got a KitchenAid attachment, that resides in the freezer most of the time..
