Your website brings many memories to my mind. I was 25 years old when I left Warsaw in 1969, but Nowy Swiat is still as it was then. Paczki at "Blicklego" and famous poppy seeds cakes are indeed my preference. There were many others pastry shops in that area and walking down along Krakowskie Przedmiescie. Just across the street of Hotel Bristol there was a magnificent pastry shop with a wide selection of always very fresh pastries. I used to shop there on my way home from the office. I am trying to find a receipe for the poppy seed cake that you had so many during your visit. If you happen to have it, could you share it with me.

Thank you,

Krystyna

Hej Dagmar! Searching the net for recipes for Polish ponczki I stumbled onto your wonderful blog. I too live in Stockholm, have family in Warszawa, recentely visited the city and spent a whole afternoon at Blikle, interviewing Mr Blikle himself and tasting some of the delicious pastry. Among others their modified version of cernik, a fluffier, almost mousse-like cake, serverd with homemade raspberry sauce. Try it next time you're there!

Gosia: I believe that refering a paczek as a "Polish doughnut" is the closest you can come namewise. It's not very accurate, but still the most suitable English word when describing a paczek.

Seima: Thanks! I made some polish doughnuts earlier this year, but I wasn't happy with the recipe so I didn't post. But I'll hope to make some new ones soon and then I'll post a recipe.

Gloria: Thank you so much!

Karolina: Thank you very much, that is so sweet of you.
